Censorship

I’m glad you found us.  In my view, censorship should have no place in a civilized society.  There is no purpose for it other than to attempt to control the flow of information amongst the minds of beings.  It is the supreme invalidation of the beings it targets. It implies they are not intelligent enough to evaluate information for its credibility and importance.  It has historically been used by dictators and tyrants attempting to suppress dissent and differing views.  It has all too often been used against those working to free people from slavery, both physical and mental. In its current context, to me it has an even deeper meaning. I have told many people that the greatest ability I ever attained in Scientology was the ability to disagree.  When I regained that faculty I considered myself no longer  a lemming following group think over the cliff.  For censorship to be conducted against the subject matter on which we have interchanged ideas is anathema to the very subject we discuss. On the dark side, today marks the nadir of the organization’s betrayal of LRH. On the bright side,  I believe today marks the beginning of the end of a three decade Dark Age of oppression.  Remember that communication is the universal solvent. Thanks for staying connected.

  1. Either OSA posing as ‘Anon’ infiltrated the old blog to censor, or one of the Anon extremists did it, I would think. Either way, somebody didn’t like what was being posted and rather than use reason and communication to resolve it, they opted for destruction.

Fortunately, there are those who can continue to create. Like, all of us. Here we are again, back, as usual.

    • Back again stronger! lol

I like to see Marty’s Blog mirrored on Google’s Blogger. Google already has a-bone-to-pick with DM. Going back a long time…

  2. I don’t know, Marty. It seems that you have done a bit of censoring right here (or rather on the previous blog incarnation) against those simply seeking to exercise their “ability to disagree”. No?

    • Disinfected,
This blog is an expression. It is moderated to make an intelligent discussion possible. I spent weeks allowing every comment on and only began moderating comments that were quite apparently intended to offend and lessen the expression of those who used the blog constructively. Even then I took the time to try to educate those intending to shut the blog down with bigoted, asinine generalities. Only when certain people continued to assert hate talk that had already been addressed not only by myself but several other participants did I start rejecting comments. There is a huge difference between politely and intelligently attempting to forward communication and using covert – and illegal – means to shut down a discussion forum utilized by literally thousands on a daily basis. I have not attempted to, nor will I ever, shut down an established channel of communication. You have a plethora of channels to communicate on which you are free to do.

      • There’s a difference, too, in moderating your own comm lines (Marty created, and I consider that he primarily owns, this comm line which we all use) and destroying or cutting the comm lines of someone else. There’s a huge difference in intention in those two activities, as well.

Glad to have found you (thanks, AGAIN, Jim Logan). I knew it wouldn’t take you long.

        luna

      • Moderated is just another word you substitute for censored, Marty. You have censored comments from me in the past, even though they were not abusive or trolling. You have done it to many other people as well. In all likelihood, you will most probably censor this post. If you don’t then thanks for that at least.

Either you are against censorship or you’re not, but don’t be dishonest about it. You have every right to allow or disallow whatever you want here on your own site, but don’t proclaim to be some wonderful upholder of free speech and anti-censorship when it’s blatantly obvious and very evidential that you are not.

Also, just because people disagree with you, it doesn’t make them supporters of DM, or that they are doing DM’s work for him. That’s a very weak excuse for deflecting attention away from the bad things you have done in the past. You need to take some responsibility for the fact that you have done some very dubious things in your life. The excuse of “I was just following orders” didn’t work for Hitler’s henchmen, and it certainly won’t work for you.

I give you kudos for speaking out about the abuses and crimes of DM and the CoS, but that doesn’t excuse you for yours and censoring anyone that dares question you about them when those abuses involved you personally. You need to get your finger out and start speaking out and talking to the right people about some of the many abuses you were involved with, and that excludes your admissions of the odd bit of violence here and there.

No doubt you’ll have a few supporters who will blindly leap to your defence and disagree with me, comparing you to the second coming of Christ, but then again, DM has many supporters who will do exactly the same, and you more than most know know what BS that is.

Happy New Year to you, and I hope that 2010 sees you opening up more about your involvement with the more dubious activities of the CoS. The more you reveal, the more likely it is that you’ll get your wish and that DM and his cohorts will get their comeuppance. For all I know, you could be planning exactly that. I hope for your sake you are.

        Cheers.

      • If Marty were prosecuted and convicted of crimes that he committed while he was in the Church, so be it — I don’t believe he should receive any special treatment. However, is he really more valuable rotting in jail than doing the work he’s doing now? Can you understand why he might not choose to take to the rooftops and shout a series of confessions to the skies?

I can believe that Marty is genuinely sorry for what he’s done in the past, and I can further believe that he could, in all sincerity, conclude that the best way to make things right is to use his knowledge and experience to help people rather than beg to be punished.

In fact, DM and friends would probably love more than anything for Marty to be cooling his heels in a prison cell, discredited and out of the picture. Isn’t that reason enough to keep him here among us?

  3. No. Communication is just communication.

    Stop drinking the Koo-Aid.

    • The haters are out in numbers this morning. You are doing DM proud.

    • Example of “Communication is just communication:”

“Come here, handsome, I want to give you a big, wet, kiss.”

      EQUALS

YOUR FACE IS ON FIRE AND I’M GOING TO PUT IT OUT WITH
      THIS MEAT TENDERIZER!!

  4. Thought provoking

The nice thing about the internet is that it gives you a way around censorship. People who want to know will continue to search and it won’t take long before they can find a comm line again.

I saw the site was closed, knew it was wrong and just looked at other sites until I found the connection again. Thanks Old Auditor for being the line on the other end.

  5. Sorry to see this happen. It’s seems to be a regular occurrence with websites critical of Miscavology. I asked some European anons on irc what could be done about this (so this is their comments, not mine, as I am not computer savvy).

They said that it was likely that your password was “socially engineered” ie. someone was able to guess your password or glean the answers to the “secret security questions” and was able to log in and change your blog entries. You should be able to recover all your blog entries and comments through the Google Cache. If you cannot do this yourself, I could ask one of them to do it?

    • xfsm, Done, thanks.

    • I use 40-bit hex keys (8 char, random 1-0, A-F) for my passwords which should be secure enough as most websites have some protection against brute-force attacks. I generate the key from a passphrase that I can remember. For the security questions, I use a series of non-sequitor answers that I can remember easily like “Who was your best friend in high school?” “torque wrench”.

  6. Hi Marty,

Glad to see you are back up again. A couple of suggestions: 1. Maybe you could use the export function on your blog to back it up each day: http://en.support.wordpress.com/export/ 2. Maybe you could arrange to have the blog and its comments mirrored on another set of servers. There are Anons who know how to do this so that even if the main blog goes down, the mirror doesn’t.

Wow. That Clear topic must be one HOT HOT HOT button. I think I have posted a comment twice now, only to have the blog hacked!

  7. Welcome back on line. Amazing the degree to which people try to silence you! You must be creating an effect!!

  8. Hildegard Goos-Mayr:
Generally speaking, the first nonviolent act is not fasting, but dialogue. The other side, the adversary, is recognized as a person, he is taken out of his anonymity and exists in his own right, for what he really is, a person. To engage someone in dialogue is to recognize him, have faith in him. At every step in the nonviolent struggle, at every level we try tirelessly to establish a dialogue, or reestablish it if it has broken down. When I say ‘the other side,’ that could be a group of persons or a government.

    • Cat Daddy,
Thank you for an insightful post. I’ll take this chance to tell you I read the entirety of the pack you suggested. You and I need to talk so I can cover this whole subject on the Flag Orders. At this point I can tell you that pack isn’t a lot to work on to evaluate a larger subject. It isn’t even FO’s in a lot of cases but issues that have long since expired, ‘advices’ which are not policy, and so on. In any case, you can find my mail address and I’ll gladly help out with what you are looking at.

      • We will Jim Logan. It will be in the new year though though. I just am appaled that someädvices”could even have been concieved by a human being.

    • CD, I haven’t told you yet how much I love what you have to say. I do. Thanks.

I am an Anon. I support Marty’s right to “censor” comments to this blog. Critics have the right to comment elsewhere and do. How Marty exercises his right of censorship will determine the health or otherwise of the discussion on this blog (by “this” I include the previous content) and whether people will want to participate or not. The blog has a purpose and a key audience and the censorship reflects that. Marty might choose one day to have a different blog with a different purpose and different rules. That doesn’t concern me, so long as nobody ever suggests that this blog (or any other communication channel) should be any person’s sole source of information on the net. That would be leaning toward cult behaviour and would be a red flag. But that has not happened.

Some people have been quick to say that the hijack is the work of OSA. It may be so. It may be a rogue Anon (Anons will quickly jump to say that all Anons are “rogue”, because there are no authorities in Anonymous.) I don’t know who did it, but I hope the content and most or all of the comments can be retrieved.

I am most concerned about Marty’s email potentially having been accessed. I hope someone goes to jail for that, if it has happened.

      • Much obliged Heather. I like lolcat and Ceak as much as you do *wink*.

What you said rings trhroug to me. If I want to kick some shins I am not going to do it here. I have personnaly atacked the blog-owner. But I recognized that is not constructive.

I am glad I can discuss the influance of the Sea Org and Flag Orders on public Scientology on here with Jim Logan. I know Marty loved his time in the Sea Org and I can see how his expieriences differ from people who gotten the low end of the Stick. I am trying to look at the broad perspective regarding Shifts in direction in Scientology’s Organizational structure.

I noticed that Flag likes to centrialize and takes control of all aspects of Scientology live. It is what military entities do: Control all resourches. They Ambvushed many missionholders and strong armed existing Orgs especcially blooming ones that had nothing to do with Staff.

  9. Welcome back Marty. I was panicked for a bit there. Fisher is right – you must be creating an effect or two.

  10. The ability to disagree was one I gained when I did the Sunshine Rundown. Thanks for reminding me about that.

  11. P.S. Thanks for making an intelligent discussion possible.

  12. Welcome back Marty – found you again thru Facebook. Continue to put out the comm – we’ll find you! You are creating quite the effect.

  13. Dear Marty I bet all my savings on who’s behind the recent attack. I’m sure to win!

  14. Great example of wrong targeting. Whether the Church of Scn took down the site or not, I don’t know, but the Church will definitely attempt to silence those who speak out against the current management.

An example, Iran just today accused the US and other Western States of fomenting the riots and disturbances in their country. It is our fault! Wrong Targets. Iranians are dying in their streets to bring some democracy to their country, and we in the West are to blame!

Sound familiar? I might not agree with everything posted on this site, but it is no crime to express your viewpoint. If the Church were to understand how much it pisses people off to have Church suppression shoved down their throats, then maybe some real reform could be accomplished.

    Just saying …

  15. Welcome back Marty!

There are always casualties in information warfare. One of them was friendsoflrh and the other one was you. However, you are both back up and running and the forces of evil, you know the Church of SPECTRE, are probably planning their next cyber-attack. And so it goes.

You obviously touched a red hot button. Clear. Something definitely has them shaking in their boots about the topic!

Especially that they’d do something as stupid as crash your blog, just to confirm to one and all that there may be something to this.

Well it’s good to have you back Marty.

    You kick ass dude!

  16. I found you through Maria’s post in the Scientology forum.

    Thanks for everything Marty!

  17. It was really a shock to find Marty’s blog gone.

But not for long. Because … you the only way to stop good people is…by convincing them they are bad. DM’s puppet church has tried that and *failed*.

BIG FAIL because after the *whole world* is full of “SPs”, after one by one good people are targeted and crushed because they are too alive, and it goes on and on and on…they eventually brush off the introverting hurt and wrong indications. They realize the only reason they were crushed is because they were GOOD to begin with, and conscientious about the smallest things. They start looking around. And adding up the 2% ..that leaves a WHO or two.

    CrushRegFAIL CrushSmearFAIL CrushDeceiveFAIL CrushHackFAIL

    We see you.

  18. The great Oz has spoken … thankfully Dorothy and Toto pulled back the curtain.

*”Do you presume to criticize the great Oz? You ungrateful creatures!”*

  19. Welcome back Marty!!

Thanks for being there and communicating!

    ARC,
    Alex

  20. It’s good to find the blog again! I found it from a post at another Scientology forum.

Is there any way to put a notice on the old address, pointing people (or better, redirecting the link) to this new blog address? There are many places online (e.g. wikipedia, St Pete Times, etc.) which point to Marty’s old blog address, and I’d hate to see people miss the new blog address.

  21. And for myslf, an intelligent conversation is one of exchange where you walk away with something, you did not have before the conversation. And I see Marty as being a bridge back to reason, hope and truth for some people here. So, the blog is a product and if he wants to keep it clean of things that he considers little value, that is his prerogative.

  22. Well said. —> Marty wrote: “For censorship to be conducted against the subject matter on which we have interchanged ideas is anathema to the very subject we discuss. 23. I’m happy I found you. I e mailed to my list of friends who are in this blog and gaved them the new address.
NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO STOP, A COMM LINE, UNLESS THEY ARE AFRAID OF SOMETHING. I was pissed off when I found my theta blog gone… but just for a little while, I found you back!!
    love to all bloggers

  24. Stopping in at Marty’s Place had become a critical part of my morning ritual and the first stop on my tour of blogs and websites. This morning when I clicked to whisked to Marty’s Place and this box appears telling me that the authors had deleted the blog, without comm lag, I uttered the words, “Those mother fu#&ers!” Believe me, the intention was many times more severe than the words.

Well, what next?, I thought. First, an email to Thougthful Steve to see what he knows then make a post on Leaving Scientology to inform others. Now it’s time to go to work and have attention on this all day. Get home tonight and the first thing I do is get online. A reply from Thoughtful Steve with Marty’s new blog add as well as a post on Leaving Scn by Jim Logan with the same. AHhhh…once again there is balance in the universe.

Marty, you are a point of power. An enormous quantity of free theta pools in your vicinity. That is very good for Scientology and very dangerous to DM. If I were in his shoes, you would be at the top of my list for nullification. You need to be omnipresent on the web. I think we who come here can help.

    Oh yeah, Welcome back!

  25. Concerned Citizen

We too felt upset, but we also knew that once a Phoenix…
we just shopped around till we found you.

Marty you wretched man, how dare you inform the public at large that real Scientology is at hand!! That is a great crime, that is unthinkable, I mean, how is DM gonna fool people with someone like you going around saying the truth!??? You ought to be ashamed of your very honest self!

What are you trying to do- help people? Gee!

  26. Monday night I watched one of the best movies ever: “The LIves of Others” (2007 Golden Globe Nominee)

A gripping tale, fabulous set design set in the 1980’s about the East German Stasi (their CIA).

The Censorship, the ruined lives, the hidden statistics of suicide were heartbreaking reminders of life under a military regime.

Reminded me of OSA and current corporate scientology.

It saddened me to see how quickly people start to doubt their friends, how quickly they are willing to sell themselves for personal gain and how tragically their lives can end.

But this film also brilliantly showed how some can change and to assume one knows who is who is quite untrue.

Please, watch the film. I think it will inspire you to be even more vigilant, more determined to expose what is happening within corporate scientology and more compassionate to everyone.

    WH

  27. Marcus Wolf, the head of the Stasi, was placed in homeland security to enact a similar tattle tale program in the US. He was in with Bush Jr., not sure if he’s still in.

  28. ” In its current context, to me it has an even deeper meaning. I have told many people that the greatest ability I ever attained in Scientology was the ability to disagree. When I regained that faculty I considered myself no longer a lemming following group think over the cliff. ”

    Really understand this problem.

My solution was to redo data series independantly.

    Worked.
